We’re Christmas ready, are you?
Okay, now you have worked enough all through the year, and we must say, in the most unfavourable circumstances that too. So, you need to put your feet up (literally) and soak in the festive, Christmassy vibes to relax and treat yourself. Gorge on the plum cakes, decorate the Christmas tree, light up your house, hang up those stockings and sit down to binge-watch the best Christmas movies ever! No effort required; we have already curated a list for you. Check them out!
Home alone
We maintain- hands down the best movie to watch ever! Yes, we know, there have been many sequels, but do agree with us, the first one was the best of the lot. The thing that stands out in all home alone movies, though, is hope. And isn’t that what Christmas stands for? A little boy who gets left behind while a huge family sets off for a Christmas vacation navigates through various adventures, what’s there not to like?
A Christmas Story
This is a classic that has aged wonderfully well. This movie wakes you up from the fiction and shows what Christmas is really like for typical middle-class families with a lot of satire punches, realism and hilarious storytelling through the eyes of an adorable 9-year-old. Over 8000 child actors were auditioned before the protagonist was finalized!
Elf
Picture this. A human raised as an elf at the north pole realizes he’s human after all and travels all the way to New York in search of his father. Intrigued, are you? We have been too. Buddy’s (elf) story is intelligent, wickedly funny and very heart warming, to say the least. It is a charming family comedy that reminds you of the Christmas cheer!
How the Grinch stole Christmas!
Forget the Jim Carrey one, have you watched the original television series? The ‘two sizes too small’ green Grinch tries to spoil Christmas at Whoville, goes through an awful lot to discover that Christmas is much more than gifts and material possessions. Rather it is the spirit of Christmas that needs celebration, and that changes Grinch. We suggest you watch the original and be blown away!
Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer
Again, you will find many remakes of this, but the original is the most moving and adorable. The story, animation and voice-overs are just perfect in this animated series. The narration of the story and Rudolph’s struggle very carefully weaves in the narrative of the misfits. It is a series every family should watch huddled up together because isn’t that how we all feel at times- misfits?
You may have your own favourites; these are ours! We just thought of spreading some movie-joy this Christmas because it was much-needed in 2020. Hope you enjoy this time with your friends and family (with face masks) and let us together pray for a much better, happier and brighter 2021!
